Rangers kill PPP leader's brother in Karachi, police claim slain man was gang-war suspect

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Rangers killed gang-war suspect Suhail Dada in an encounter early Thursday who turned out to be Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Irfan Durrani’s brother. Durrani said his brother’s name was Salman Durrani, alleging that law enforcement carried out extrajudicial execution, Dunya News reported.
According to sources, Suhail Dada, a gang-war suspect was killed in an encounter with Rangers near City Station. Law enforcement also recovered weapons from his possession.
Dada’s brother Irfan Durrani who is president of PPP Youth Wing South lashed out at law enforcement claiming that the slain individual was his brother Salman Durrani who was mistaken as Suhail Dada by the rangers. He alleged that rangers kidnapped his brother from home last night and handed over the body early morning.
Durrani alleged that law enforcement carried out extrajudicial execution of his brother.
Methadar police insist the slain individual was a terrorist identified as Suhail Dada, adding that Dada was wanted by police in over 40 cases.
Police who earlier identified the gang-war suspect as Suhail Dada changed the statement saying the suspect’s name was Salman Dada after Irfan Durrani identified the body as his slain brother.
It merits mentioning here that CID police had claimed to have killed Suhail Dada in a raid at Napier area on June 18. Police had said that suspect was wanted in over a hundred cases including murder, kidnapping for ransom and extortion.
The suspect also had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh over his head.

It was reported on Wednesday that police officials in Karachi believe there are over forty militant groups possibly having links with Taliban are operating in Karachi metropolis.
The targeted operation against militants in Karachi that started last year by federal government with support from provincial government stakeholders has seen mixed reactions. The law enforcement has taken several suspects into custody while many have been killed in police encounters as well.
Only last month, rangers had killed suspected terrorist Imran alias Umar Qari during clash in Baldia Town area, Dunya News reported on June 19.
The suspect Umari Qari belonged to banned Swat Group.
According to Rangers spokesperson, the terrorist was involved in more than 20 cases of target killings.
Separately, five suspected criminals were arrested during raids in Ramswami area. They were shifted to undisclosed location for interrogation.
Prior to that, rangers had launched search operation in different areas of the city on June 17 and arrested several suspects.
Rangers launched search operation in Orangi Town, Manghupir, MPR and Mianwali Colony.
On a tipoff about terrorists’ presence, Rangers cordoned off these areas and blocked entry and exit points. Rangers’ anti-terrorism unit and more than 300 personnel participated in the operation.
Meanwhile, several suspected persons were arrested during door to door search and shifted to undisclosed locations. Weapons of different types were also recovered from the possession of the accused.
PPP leader Irfan Durrani is not the only one to have slammed the targeted operation. Other parties including Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have also complained in the past about irregularities in the powers enjoyed by the law enforcement conducting Karachi operation.
