Summary More than 150 terrorists of TTP (Sawati Group) are present in the financial hub of Pakistan
Karachi: (Dunya News) According to the Police officials there are more than forty terrorist groups operating within Karachi right now. The officials also claimed that the terrorists have established their command and control systems in the city and are frequently assisted by these networks in carrying out the terrorist activities in the city as well as outside it. One of the largest groups operating in the city is Sawati group which has more than 150 active terrorists operating in Karachi. This group is not only involved in regular terrorism activities but has also been held responsible for carrying out attacks on the police personnel as well as police stations in the city.
The characteristic that distinguishes this group from other banned outfits operating in Karachi is that the members of this group work in a close network and are not connected to anyone other than their own group members. The police officials said that it becomes highly difficult for the police to identify the members of this group because they do not work in collaboration with any other group. They are affiliated to their group only and never work in alliance. The major method of extracting information about the terrorist groups and terrorists is that of extracting knowledge through the arrested members of certain groups who work in cooperation with other groups but by remaining completely anonymous and having a closely knit group, this Sawati group still remains a major threat for the city police.
Police official admitted that though the targeted operation has destroyed the Sawati Group's network yet it has not been completely annihilated. This group is still working actively to destroy this city of lights, police official said, yet the Police remains highly committed to the cause of total destruction of all terrorist networks operating in the Karachi city.
The ongoing operation in Karachi has brought mixed results so far this year as thousands of suspected militants, criminals and terrorists have been arrested while hundreds have been killed in encounters yet there still remain a number of groups that pose a threat to the peace of Pakistan's financial hub. Prime Minister has already stated that the operation will continue till the last terrorist in Karachi is alive and gave all out support to the law enforcing agencies in this regard.
Police officials claim that they have finally devised a comprehensive strategy to curb these elements and that all the groups including Sawati group will be dealt with an iron hand. The police officials have made this claim after a series of operations in the city and the new strategy has been devised, keeping in mind the findings and experiences of all the previous operations.
