Summary The interior minister said this in reaction to the remarks of former DG ISPR on military operation.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has urged to avoid issuing controversial statement on military operation in North Waziristan.
Reacting to remarks of former Director General (DG) Inter Services Intelligence (ISPR) regarding military operation in North Waziristan,
Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that the army is fighting a war against terrorism to secure the future of Pakistan and unnecessary comments on the decision of military leadership can create confusion and turn the situation tense.
He urged the retired officers who have been deputed on key posts to demonstrate responsibility and carefully comment on the sensitive issues. Chaudhry Nisar said the secrecy should be maintained in important decision of national interest.
It is worth mentioning here that former DG ISPR Major General (r) Athar Abbas, in an interview to BBC on Monday, said that the army had decided to conduct military operation against terrorists in North Waziristan but it went into a halt because the then army chief General (retd) Ashfaq Parvez Kayani was hesitant, Dunya News reported.
In his interview to a British media, Athar Abbas said that the military leadership had decided for military operation in the year 2010 following which preparations to conduct a military operation were done for one whole year. He said it was General (retd) Kayani’s reluctance that put the matter into a halt, even though the army had made the principle decision to conduct the operation to rid the area of militants.
Athar Abbas alleged that General (retd) Kayani was reluctant because he thought it will be considered his personal decision and that a lot of time was wasted due to Kayani’s reluctance.
He said a heavy price was paid by the whole nation, government and its people, adding that the delay in operation allowed terrorists enough time to regroup and strengthen.
Athar Abbas said America also created problems for the army in North Waziristan.
