LAHORE (Dunya News) - Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan of Lahore High Court has summoned 26 politicians over plea filed by Barrister Iqbal Jafary regarding politicians  assets abroad. 

It was prayed in the plea that the prominent politicians including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, ex-president Asif Ali Zardari and others have assets abroad while the country is reeling under untold burden of debt.

The court was told that Nawaz Sharif, Kulsoom Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz did not receive court notices while ex-prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has received it.

The court ordered that notices against the respondents would be published in national newspapers if they fail to appear before the court.

The hearing was adjourned till June 16.

The petition was filed in 1996 by a lawyer Javed Iqbal Jafri against 26 politicians but later more names were added to it. The petition stated that the respondent politicians had transferred at least $300 billion to foreign countries through money laundering, causing a huge loss to the national exchequer.

The petitioner pleaded that the court order the politicians to bring back their assets for the national interest.
