Courts in different cities order registration of cases against Geo TV

Summary Courts have ordered police to register cases against Geo for airing blasphemous content.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Courts in different cities today (Monday) ordered registration of cases against Geo Television for airing blasphemous content on its morning show ‘Utho Jago Pakistan’ last week.

In Gujranwala, Additional Session Judge Mansoor Ahmed Khan issued verdict on five petitions, directing the authorities to file case against Geo. The court has directed the SHO of Civil Lines police station to record statements of complainants’ and take action accordingly.

Plaintiffs had requested court to name Geo TV owner Mir Shakilur Rehman, morning show host Shahista Lodhi, guests Veena Malik, Asad Khattak and others in the First Information Report (F.I.R).


Advocated Syed Kausar Iqbal Shah filed a petition in Okara District and Session Court. Judge Safdar Saleem Shahid has summoned SHO of A Division police station in this regard.

It may be mentioned here that Judge Safdar Shahid had ordered registration of case against Geo TV two days ago.

Rawalpindi Additional Session Judge Tahir Khan Niazi ordered Nasirabad and New Town police stations to register case against Geo under 295-A, 295-B, 295-C, 298-A and 7-ATC acts.

In Nankana Saheb, Additional Session Judge ordered police to book ten accused. The plea was filed by Advocate Ashraf Gujjar.

Meanwhile, petitions against alleged blasphemy have also been filed in Peshawar and Battagram courts today.
