Corrupt Wapda officials to be handed over to NAB: Abid Sher Ali

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Thursday said that assets details of Wapda officials will be collected from next month and officials involved in corruption will be handed over the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Dunya News reported.

Addressing the National Assembly, Abid Sher Ali said indiscriminate action is being taken against power thieves.

He said construction of Diamer and Dasu dams is top priority and 25 billion rupees have been released for the construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam.

The minister further stated that process of land acquisition is about to be completed and the government wants to complete this project from its own resources. However, some donor agencies have also expressed their interest to finance this project.

He said that the Prime Minister will inuagurate Diamer-Bhasha and Dasu Dams in November this year.

First phase of Neelum-Jhelum Hydro Power Project will be completed by the end of next year, which will add 253 MW of electricity to the national grid, he added.

Similarly, the government plans to construct Munda Dam. This 800 megawatt project will also help irrigate the barren land. The government has allocated 600 million rupees for this project in the current financial year.
