Lack of coordination affecting govt-Taliban talks: Professor Ibrahim

Summary Peace talks had been recently stalled again when Tehreek-e-Taliban called off a ceasefire.

PESHAWAR (Web Desk) – Member of Taliban talks committee Professor Ibrahim today (Tuesday) said that lack of coordination with the government committee is affecting ongoing dialogue process with the Tehreek-e-Talibnan Pakistan (TTP), Dunya News reported.

Talking to Dunya News in Peshawar, the Taliban negotiator said that operation in underway in South Waziristan whereas curfew continued in different parts of North Waziristan.

Locals in these areas are facing food shortage due to these actions, Professor Ibrahim said.

He said such actions are not good omen for future of the dialogue process.

Professor Ibrahim also said that the government committee has neither contacted TTP committee nor responded to it.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif came to power last year promising to engage the Taliban in peace talks and find a negotiated solution to years of fighting.

Talks had been going on since February but recently stalled again when Taliban called off a ceasefire.
