LAHORE (Dunya News) – Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Sami (JUI-S) Chief Maulana Samiul Haq said on Saturday that government and Taliban are willing to continue the negotiation process, adding that some elements want to sabotage the process. Taliban committee member Professor Ibrahim said that if both parties agree on a mutual meeting place, talks can resume, Dunya News reported.
Samiul Haq said that Taliban have disagreements that are causing internal disputes among themselves. He further said that government and army are on same page with regards to the negotiation process but some elements are trying to sabotage the process.
Professor Ibrahim said that it is unfortunate that a mutually agreed upon venue hasn’t been decided yet. He said that the distances between Taliban and government increased in the past decade adding that the only solution is still the dialogue.
Professor Ibrahim appealed government and Taliban to observe ceasefire in respect of the Islamic month Rajab.
It merits mentioning here that news reports on Friday suggested that government and armed forces are now gearing up for a military operation against Taliban following the failure of the dialogue process. The report suggested that dialogue failed due to Taliban’s continuous stubbornness and refusal to act on government’s demand of prisoners’ release.
