KARACHI (Web Desk) – At least four children have been killed and 16 others injured when a blast took place near an Islamic seminary in Karachi, Dunya News reported on Monday.
The explosion took place at about 11:20 a.m. when over 30 kids were receiving religious teaching in Jamia Masjid Islamaia Tahiria seminary located inside the mosque at Frontier Morr in Orangi Town area of Karachi, the capital city of the country s south Sindh province.
According to eyewitnesses, unknown miscreants came on motorbikes, threw hand grenades into the mosque and fled the scene.
Two of the deceased have been identified as Umer Khan and Suleman.
Hospital sources said that the deceased kids were about seven to 12 years old, while the injured children were between five to 12 years old.
The injured people including the seminary owner and 15 kids who have been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital where at least five of them are said to be in critical condition.
Police and Rangers personnel have cordoned off the blast site.
Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad took notice of the incident and sought reported from Inspector General of Police.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also condemned the attack and directed hospital administration to provide best possible medical treatment to the injured.
According to Dunya News reporter, the seminary is headed by famous Islamic scholar Maulana Ubaidullah but motive behind the attack could not be ascertained as yet.
This is the third attack in Karachi over the past week. Earlier attacks targeting police and government officials have claimed eight lives and injured over 20 others in the city.
