KARACHI (Dunya News) – Inspector General (IG) Sindh Iqbal Mehmood recommended on Saturday that abolishment of the post of Station House Officer (SHO) in Karachi can substantially reduce crime rate, Dunya News reported.

He said that if the post is abolished, no one will abuse it to occupy lands illegally, neither will anyone indulge in extortion.

He said he owes establishment of the peace to the city of the Quaid, the whole nation and the uniform.

Delivering welcome address upon IG Sindh’s visit to the Federation House, FPCCI’s president Zikirya Usman asked which element is preventing the establishment of the peace in the country and that when will peace establish.

Answering Usman’s question, IG Sindh said that those elements who have paralyzed the whole country are trying to paralyze Karachi as well.

Police has been trying to curb illegal prepaid sim cards since 2002, why doesn’t the business sector raise its voice in the matter, he asked.

He said that Prime Minister has talked about issuance of new sim cards through biometric verification system but the real problem is the existing sim cards being abused.

Answering a question about recommendation of appointing honest SHOs, IG Sindh said that he has a better solution. He said that crime rate can come down if the position of SHO is abolished.

He assured that police has become non-political adding that police’s posting and transfer is done upon recommendation from Chief Minister Sindh.

He said the elements that create problems in the police force will be kicked out.
