ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has convened a meeting of his political associates on Sunday to discuss the attack on senior journalist Hamid Mir in Karachi.

He has directed Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to get the latest update on the incident.

Nawaz Sharif also made a telephone call to brother of Hamid Mir and inquired about the health of his brother.

The Prime Minister prayed for early recovery of Hamid Mir.

He assured an independent inquiry into the incident.

A spokesman of ISPR has also condemned the incident of firing on senior anchor Hamid Mir, and prayed for his well-being and quick recovery.

In a statement issued in Rawalpindi, the spokesman said that an independent inquiry must immediately be carried out to ascertain facts.

The statement however said raising allegations against ISI or head of ISI, without any basis, is highly regrettable and misleading.

Meanwhile, a New York-based independent watchdog body "The Committee to Protect Journalists" has voiced concern over the attack on senior anchorperson Hamid Mir.

The committee called for bringing the perpetrators to justice.
