Trade activities resume in Islamabad's blast-hit market

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Trade activities at Islamabad’s sabzi mandi resumed today (Friday) after one-day mourning, Dunya News reported.

Supply of vegetables and fruits has resumed in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Secretary General of Traders Union Tahir Ayub said that another meeting would be held with the district administration to discuss market’s security.

Traders are fully cooperating with police in this regard, he said.

Meanwhile, the death toll from Wednesday’s blast has reached 25 as another person succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The blast struck at around 8:00 am (0300 GMT) at the wholesale market near the capital’s twin city Rawalpindi, when hundreds of grocers and sellers gathered to trade.

The United Baluch Army (UBA), one of several armed separatist groups in Balochistan, claimed responsibility of the attack.

The federal government has announced a compensation of Rs500,000 to the heirs of each dead and Rs75,000 to each of the injured in the incident.

Police have so far recorded statements of more than 70 people including the injured, whereas, several arrests were made in connection with the incident.
