Summary Sources say that majority of PML-N leaders have opposed removing Musharraf’s name from ECL.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif chaired an informal consultative meeting in Islamabad today (Tuesday) to discuss key issues.
The meeting was attended by Defense Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid.
According to sources, the meeting reviewed process of negotiation with Taliban and former president Pervez Musharraf’s request for removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).
The sources said that most of the party members have suggested not removing former president’s name from ECL. The party leaders suggested the PM that decision of allowing Musharraf to leave the country would cast negative impacts. The meeting could not reach the final decision regarding Musharraf issue, the sources added.
The sources further said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to hold through consultation over the issue. They added that the PM would also consult other political parties over the issue after which the final decision would be made regarding removal of Musharraf’s name from ECL.
It may be mentioned here that a three-member special bench rejected Musharraf’s application on Monday and advised him to approach the federal government to seek removal of his name from the ECL.
The court said it has no jurisdiction to bar Musharraf from leaving the country as he is not under arrest in the high treason case.
The Interior Ministry has previously rejected Musharraf s request for permission to go abroad for treatment.
Separately, the meeting headed by the Prime Minister discussed developments in ongoing dialogue process with the Taliban.
The leaders also discussed future course of action in the meeting.
