Summary Saudi Arabian gifts always have a price, he said while referring to $1.5 billion 'gift.'
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PMLQ) president Chaudhry Shujaat claimed on Thursday that Musharraf’s case will remain inconclusive, adding that the case could have taken a developmental turn had the charges been of constitutional violation instead of treason, Dunya News reported.
Shujaat reiterated that using the word treason for former president Pervez Musharraf is inappropriate and that no one can tolerate country’s army chief to be declared a traitor.
He said withholding by-polls is a constitutional treason, suggesting Prime Minister and Chief Minister also be tried for constitutional treason.
He said he would pray for the success of Taliban negotiations reiterating the hope for restoring peace through negotiation is very skim.
Talking about government employees’ pay increment, he said people and government employees should forget the current government would do anything to benefit them.
He further said that kind of gift Saudi Arabia has given – referring to $1.5 billion ‘gift’ – always has a price.
Earlier, Justice Faisal Arab excused himself from hearing high treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf.
The other two judges, Justice Tahira Safdar and Justice Yawar Ali Khan, also left the room after the head of the judge bench refused to hear the case proceeding.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Faisal Arab heard the treason allegations levelled against the former military ruler on Thursday.
As soon as the hearing began, Justice Faisal Arab said that he will not be able to hold the hearing if the current way of arguing was not changed.
Commenting over the decision of Justice Faisal Arab, one of the lawyers presenting Musharraf Anwar Mansoor said that it was his discretionary power, saying that the legal team has done nothing in this regard.
Earlier, Anwar Mansoor also said that Musharraf has never refused to appear before court, adding that the non-bailable arrest warrants was a wrong decision.
Another lawyer Ahmed Raza Kasuri said certain elements were working on an agenda against Musharraf.
