SHIKARPUR (Dunya News) - Police on Thursday raided to arrest Pakistan Muslim League Functional (PML-F) MNA Ghous Bakhsh Mahar and other members of the illegal jirga that ordered killing of two women for honour and Rs 2.4 million fine for two boys who were set free.
According to details, several persons were detained during the raids but the nominated accused could not be arrested.
On Wednesday, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani took a suo moto notice of two women killed for honour in in Shikarpur and summoned Inspector General (IG) Sindh to personally submit report on March 20, Dunya News reported.
Chief Justice said that the incident is a violation of article 9 of constitution.
A case had been registered against head of the jirga MNA Ghaus Bakahs Mahr and 20 others.
In Shikarpur a tribal jirga had allegedly ordered the killing of two women of Meher tribe. Jirga also fined Jakrani tribe Rs 2.4 million.
‘Honour killing’ or killing in the name of honour is outlawed in Pakistan but the number of reported cases involving honour killing is growing.
According to Aurat Foundation’s statistics, 432 women were reportedly killed in the name of honour in Pakistan in 2012, 705 in 2011, 557 in 2010, 604 in 2009 and 475 in 2008.
