MULTAN (Dunya News) – Resfusing to appear before NAB ivestigation team in NICL scam, former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani reiterated that he has legal immunity under constitution.
"I have the constitutional immunity, I’d see who could arrest me”, Gilani stated while addressing a press conference in Multan on Friday.
Gilani said he would appear if the parliament removes constitutional immunity for prime ministers from constitution.
Referring to the NAB summons, Gilani said he was not afraid of court notices.
Slamming former Chief Justice, he said those who took benefit from NRO were acquitted by the courts.
Had Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry been sincere, Musharraf would have been behind bars, Gilani added.
"I think I would be the first political prisoner of the present government", Gilani added.
Referring to the judicial transition, Gilani said he hopes Tassaduq Hussain Jilani will not become a politician.
Earlier, Yousaf Raza Gilani has refused to appear before an investigation team of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in NICL corruption case. The ex-PM was ordered to appear before a probe team of anti-corruption body for his alleged involvement in the multibillion corruption in National Insurance Company Limited (NICL).
According to Dunya TV sources, arrest warrants were likely to be issued if Gilani didn’t appear before the NAB.
Gilani reached Multan from Islamabad while personal secretary of ex-PM has received summons issued by NAB, the sources added.
Earlier in November, Supreme Court in its verdict, handed over the investigation of NICL scam to NAB and ordered to register cases against all those politicians and bureaucrats involved in the scam.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by the then Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry issued the verdict.
