ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said rise in incidents of sectarian violence is a matter of concern for the government.

Chairing a high-level meeting, to review the overall law and order situation in the country, Ch Nisar Khan said all acts of violence would be dealt with an iron hand and all segments of religious opinion would be taken on board in a proactive and positive manner.

He gave directions for increased coordination among law enforcement agencies. He also asked for greater coordination with provincial governments in matters related to law and order.

Interior Minister was briefed about the current law and order situation including in Balochistan on the occasion of local bodies elections‚ Karachi situation as well as incidents of protest in some parts of the country.

Earlier, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad and discussed the emerging situation in the aftermath of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jammat leader Shamsur Rehman Muawiya’s killing.

The Interior Minister also briefed the premier over investigation of the case.

On Friday, the incident took place as Shamsur Rehman Muawiya, the chief of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jammat (ASWJ) for Punjab province, travelled by car to the northern Harbans Pura neighbourhood.

"Two gunmen riding a motorbike opened fire on Muawiya s vehicle, wounding him and his driver critically," senior local police official, Rana Abdul Jabbar, told AFP.

He said Shasur Rehman Muawiya was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while the driver remains in a critical condition.

"We are investigating the incident but it apparently seems to be a target killing," the police official said.
