Summary Both the Senators have been demanding a treason trial against former president Pervez Musharraf.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Senator Raza Rabbani and Senator Zahid Khan have received threatening letters, suggestive of serious consequences for demanding a treason trial against former president and ex army chief General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.
On a point of order‚ Leader of the Opposition Aitzaz Ahsan said two senior members of the House Mian Raza Rabbani and Zahid Khan have received threatening letters for their strict stance on different issues.
He said it appeared that the letters had been written by some aides of former dictator Pervez Musharraf for the stance of the two members on Article 6 of the Constitution.
Aitzaz said copies of these letters will be provided to relevant authorities and that he will ask for thorough investigation into the matter.
Leader of the House Raja Zafarul Haq assured that he will ask the government to appoint a neutral team to inquire the whole matter and nab those behind writing these threatening letters.
The Chair said the Interior Minister should proceed in accordance with the law and the inquiry report be submitted before this House.
It is worth mentioning here that Rabbani and Zahid Khan along with other senators, had called for Musharraf to be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution for abrogating the Constitution and derailing democracy.
The present Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had recently requested the Supreme Court to constitute a “special court” to try Musharraf for high treason for imposing emergency rule in the country in November 2007.
