(Web Desk) - The Supreme Court has cancelled the 2003 multi-million liqiuified petroleum gas (LPG) quota agreement between Sui Southern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) and Jamshoro Joint Venture Limited (JJVL), Dunya News reported on Wednesday.
The decision, reserved on Octo 22, was issued by a three member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
In its verdict, the court declared the agreement as ‘non-transparent’ and ordered that all losses should be recovered.
The apex court has also directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to probe the matter and submit a report within a month.
Later talking to the media outside the Supreme Court‚ Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif termed the apex court's decision as historic.
He said the LPG quota scandal has caused loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer.
He said several prominent personalities and politicians of the era of former president Pervez Musharraf were involved in the scam.
