PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Resolutions against drone strikes were submitted in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s assemblies on Monday.
A resolution was presented by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly. The resolution was presented by JUI-F parliamentary leader Maulana Lutfur Rehman.
The K-P Assembly is set to meet today at 4pm to review the killing of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Hakimullah Mehsud and the proposed closure of Nato supply routes. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government, who is pushing for the block, is likely to enjoy the support of opposition parties.
Today’s session was called by the government after PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s announcement on Saturday to block Nato supply lines passing through K-P.
Earlier, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) also submitted resolutions against drone strikes in the Punjab and Sindh assemblies, which demand that the government block Nato supplies and take up the matter of continued violation of sovereignty by US drone attacks with the United Nations Security Council.
The resolution submitted by Opposition leader in Punjab Assembly, stated that the House condemns the drone strike that attempted to sabotage the peace talks.
The resolution demanded the federal government to halt NATO supply routes and raise the matter in United Nations Security Council along with all other options.
The drone strikes are fomenting extremism, unrest and terrorism in the country, the resolution further stated.
