Musharraf gets bail in Ghazi Abdul Rasheed case

Summary Pervez Musharraf was booked in the murder case of Lal Masjid cleric on September 2.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - A court in Islamabad has granted bail to former president Pervez Musharraf in Ghazi Abdul Rashid murder case, Dunya News reported.

Islamabad s additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) Wajid Ali approved bail on condition Musharraf pay bonds totalling 200,000 rupees ($2,000).

It is pertinent to mention here that the police has already declared him  innocent  in the murder of Lal Masjid cleric Ghazi Abdul Rasheed.

Musharraf was booked in the murder case of Lal Masjid cleric on September 2 after Haroon, the cleric s son, approached the Islamabad high court for registering an FIR against the former dictator for launching the 2007 operation.

The former military ruler seized power in a 1999 coup but was forced into exile nine years later after a showdown with the judiciary. He returned to Pakistan this year to contest May elections but was barred from contesting by a flurry of court cases.

Musharraf has been under arrest for nearly six months at his farmhouse on the outskirts of Islamabad, guarded by nearly 300 security personnel.

He has already been granted bail in three major cases registered against him over the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto, the killing of Baloch leader Akbar Bugti and the imposition of emergency in 2007.

But the 70-year-old is likely to remain under heavy guard at his villa on the edge of Islamabad, where he has been under house arrest since April, because of serious threats to his life.

His name is currently on the interior ministry s "exit control list", which means he cannot leave Pakistan without the approval of the government.
