Summary ECP has suspended membership of 26 MPs over non-submission of assets’ details.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan Tuesday suspended the membership of 29 members of Senate and National Assembly for their failure in submitting the details of their assets.
The decision was taken after the expiry of deadline issued by the ECP.
Faisal Raza Abdi and Mustafa Kamal are among the suspended senators.
The membership of MNAs Abdul Rehman Kanjo, Shahjahan Baloch and Aleeze Iqbal Haider has also been suspended.
Meanwhile, membership of four Punjab Assembly, nine Sindh Assembly, one Balochistan Assembly and seven KP Assembly members, has also been suspended for the same reason.
Membership of Punjab Assembly MPAs suspended were Masood Shafqat, Ali Abbas, Waheed Asghar Dogar and Abdul Majeed Khan Niazi.
Membership of Sindh Assembly lawmakers suspended included Haji Abdul Rauf Khan Khosa, Ghulam Rasool Khan Jatoi, Syed Faseeh Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Ali Bhutto, Aziz Ahmed Jatoi, Bashir Ahmed Halepoto, Jameel Ahmed Bhurgari, Saniya and Mukesh Kumar Chawla.
In KPK assembly the members who were suspended by ECP were Mohammad Arif, Muhammad Khan Bahadur, Muhammad Zahid Durrani, Iftikhar Ali Mushwani, Zia ullah Khan Bangash, Shah Faisal Khan and Sardar Zahoor Ahmad.
Dr. Shama Ishaq Baloch was only member of Balochistan Assembly who was suspended after failed to meet the commission s deadline to submit asset details.
Under the relevant laws, every member of the parliament and provincial assemblies has to submit detail of their assets and liabilities by September 30 every year.
The commission after receiving the details waits for another 15 days (October 15 every year) to compile the report and suspend the membership of all those who fail to submit the details within the stipulated time.
Since there were Eid holidays till October 20, the action against stated parliamentarians was expected on October 21.
However, the commission has decided to wait for another day to fulfill its legal obligation and issuance of notification for suspension of membership is now expected on Tuesday.
