Summary Flight situation will improve after the Hajj operation, says PIA spokesman.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - PIA has decided to close it’s at least 36 local and international flights due to shortage of operational aircraft and financial crisis.

According to sources, the state-owned airline has decided to close eight flights permanently, while 28 flights have been halted temporary.

On the other hand, PIA spokesman said that situation will improve after the Hajj operation.

PIA lost $320 million in last year alone. The losses could have been much higher if the government had not pumped in millions of rupees in an attempt to sustain the failing airline.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced to sell 26 percent stakes in PIA and has asked the airline to improve its financial position.

Earlier, the Joint Action Committee of Pakistan International Airlines Employees (JACPIAE) had demanded from the government to immediately withdraw its decision of privatising the national flag carrier and instead of selling out its 26 percent shares in the market the PIA should be given three to six months to recover and regain its lost glory.
