MIRAN SHAH (Agencies) - US drone strike killed seven people and injured two others in the Shawal area of North Waziristan, officials said on Sunday.

Intelligence officials said US unmanned aircrafts fired four missiles which hit two houses at Shawal town of North Waziristan Sunday afternoon.

Sunday drone strike targeted two suspected compounds and destroyed them completely which left seven people dead and injuries to two others.

North Waziristan is home to a mix of Pakistani, Afghan and alQaida-linked foreign militants.

Sunday strike was carried out when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was on his way to United States where he has set to meet US president Barack Obama.

It is expected that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would raise drone issue in his address to UN general assembly on September 27.

Islamabad to take the issue to UN Security Council too as Pakistan charges that the drone strikes are against international laws and a violation of its sovereignty.

The US drone program is a source of extreme tension between the two countries.

Washington says it needs to send drones after dangerous militants because the Pakistani government refuses to engage them militarily.

Pakistan charges that the drone strikes are a violation of its sovereignty.
