Summary Different socio-political parties have challenged dual system of local bodies’ elections.
LAHORE (Dunya News) Lahore High Court has ordered the government of the Punjab to state deadline of local bodies’ elections till September 25.
Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen and Tehrik e Insaf’s women wing had moved writ petitions in this regard. LHC Chief Justice resumed hearing of these petitions and consulted acting Advocate General Punjab Mustafa Ramday that three provinces are holding local bodies’ elections on party basis while Punjab was insisting on holding local polls on non-party bases.
Advocate General told the court that Chief Minister Punjab is gone to foreign visit; so he can’t submit any proposal in the court on the part of the chief minister.
He also requested the court to adjourn the hearing of the aforesaid case till September 25.
Chief Justice emphasized delay in local bodies elections is diametrically unbearable, with the direction that the court should be informed about the stance of the Punjab government on September 25 when the aforesaid case would be heard.
