Summary Dar says both government and opposition should sit together to bring a consensus chairman.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has made a telephonic contact with Leader of the Opposition‚ Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah‚ who is currently in London‚ for the appointment of Chairman for National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

He apprised the opposition leader about the court s orders and emphasized the need for immediate appointment of Chairman NAB for the implementation of apex court’s order.

The minister said both the government and the opposition should sit together to reach consensus over the appointment of chairman.

The opposition leader said he is returning to Pakistan on 19th of this month and will make efforts to develop consensus on this issue.

Earlier, the Supreme Court instructed the government on Friday to appoint chairman of the NAB as early as possible or be ready for consequences.

But the government informed the court that the Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Khursheed Shah, whose consent was mandatory for selecting a person for the post, was in the UK and the matter would be decided after his expected return on Sept 17.

The court took serious notice of the functioning of the country’s premium anti-corruption which remains paralysed because the office of its chairman has been vacant for over three months and, as a result, many important references have been shelved.
