Zardari wants suspension of executions till Sept 9

Summary Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the Interior Ministry to halt executions until September 9.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Ministers Nawaz Sharif called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Awan-e-Sadr on Thursday night.

The President told the PM that his government had stopped implementation of death sentences of several accused for five years as per the party policy.

President Zardari said he wanted that the five-year moratorium should be put on hold until September 9, after which the government can review the decision with the new president.

Newly elected President Mamnoon Hussain will assume office on September 9.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the Interior Ministry to halt executions until completion of the tenure of President Asif Ali Zardari.
