ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) Senate’s standing committee for interior severely criticized the performance of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Senator Talha Mehmood said deal of Chinese scanners is a very big scandal; it would be brought on the surface. 


The meeting of aforesaid standing committee was held in Islamabad on Friday and reviewed progress and performance of the FIA. Senator Talha Mehmood said that purchase of vehicle scanners is a big scandal. The real price of the scanner was Rs 80 million but it was purchased by Rs 240 million which is breach of trust and the elements involved in the scam are trying to escape it.


He made it clear the FIA would be assigned the duty to conduct and inquiry and investigation in this matter. Foreign companies allegedly involved in bribery would also be interrogated as well.


The FIA officials briefed the committee that 22 officers who come on deputation from different institutions have been sent back to their departments.


The committee also recommended raising the salaries of FIA officials equal to Islamabad police. The officials also told that the FIA has detected theft of electricity and Sui gas worth Rs 11 billion and arrested 122 persons in 191 cases. It was also informed that the FIA also recovered Rs 5,52 billion in 2013. The investigation department also recovered Rs 3085 in EOBI case Rs 130 million in Silk Bank Case.


The FIA officials also brief that it had rendered outstanding services in many ways.
