LG bill draft: PPP, MQM talks end without consensus

Summary PPP and MQM will hold the second round of talks will begin on August 17.

 

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan People’s Party and MQM held the first round of talks to discuss the newly drafted bill on Local Bodies.


However, the first round of discussion ended without any agreement on Thursday.


The meeting held at the Chief Minister’s House was attended by Senior Sindh Minister for Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro‚ Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Minister for Law Dr Sikandar Mandhro.


The MQM delegation, led by Dr Farooq Sattar, included Faisal Sabzwari‚ Sardar Ahmed and Kanwar Naveed Jameel.

 

MQM contended that they wanted effective and powerful local governments as per the Article 140A of the Constitution.


Sharjeel Memon maintained that the local government law of 1979 will be scrapped in favour of a new law.


The second round of talks will begin on August 17.
