ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) A three member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case.

Earlier during the hearing the apex court asked the Attorney General to present notifications of increase in sales tax and increase in the prices of petroleum products.

Chief Justice demanded explanation from Attorney General Munir A Malik that government has imposed 17 percent GST, then why nine percent additional tax is being collected from CNG.

Attorney General was of the view that additional tax is being collected from companies.

Upon this, Chief Justice contended that companies do not pay this tax on their own behalf; rather they impose the burden of tax on masses who are already are passing miserable lives.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that democratic government take care of masses but the system is diametrically opposite here in Pakistan as total burden of tax is imposed on consumers.

Chief Justice remarked that consumers are not being given priority regarding interests of masses.

The government has been collecting nine percent as additional tax on CNG for more than nine years.
