Summary Advisor Alter Energy Board Dr Basharat embezzled Rs 25m by issuing intent letter to rejected plant.
Islamabad (Dunya News/Online) - As the newly elected government is only a one month old, the first mega corruption scandal has emerged involving embezzlement of 25 million rupees, media quoting sources reported on Thursday.
According to reports, adviser to Alternate Energy Board Dr. Basharat was appointed as chief executive of the board.
“Just after taking charge of the seat, Dr. Basharat issued letter of intent to a rejected power plant,” it said.
“Even he has taken an interest of Rs. 1 million in the case,” sources said.
The emergence of the scandal could be a big set back for people waiting to see resolution of power crisis.
However, the analysts say that this attitude shows that official, who are ought to resolve the load shedding and power crisis, are not in a mood to provide relief to the masses.
Dr. Basharat is never been an employee or part of the board and has been working as the adviser of the board.
According to the officials, the project, which is to produce 118 Mega Watt energy through alternate energy, was situated in Muzaffargarh.
The project was rejected by Dr Musaddiq, adviser to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Energy.
