Summary Electricity cost is high due to expensive supply from IPPs, the Power Minister said.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif on Thursday said that electricity load shedding has caused a loss of one thousand billion rupees to the country during last five years.
Addressing a conference on Power Sectors Reforms in Islamabad Thursday, he said independent power producers (IPPs) are providing expensive electricity‚ which has resulted in increase in power tariff.
The minister said the burden of the rise in the price of the electricity will be transferred to the privileged class and not for the poor masses.
He said fifty per cent electricity is being generated from oil and the government is striving hard to promote hydel and coal power projects for cheaper electricity.
