LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Railway employees took out a protest rally for the second consecutive day on Friday against no increment in the salaries of government staff in the proposed federal budget for new fiscal year 2013-14.

The protesters said that this was the first budget in history in which the government employees were ignored while praised the previous PPP-led government for increasing salaries up to 50 percent in 2010.

The demonstrators threatened to hold wheel-jam strike if their salaries were not increased.

Meanwhile, the clerical staff has also given strike call from today against no raise in salaries.

On Thursday, All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) took to the streets in Multan in the favour of their demands. The demonstrators were of the view that the government has deprived them from two-time bread.

Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, APCA Deputy General Secretary Amjad Ali said that they would continue to observe strike till raise in their salaries by 50 percent.

On the other hand, addressing a post-budget press conference, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that one percent increase in General Sales Tax and not to raise the wages of the labour were very tough decisions that the government has taken.

“People would have to bear the burden this year only as from next year we will compensate them,” he said while referring to salaries of the government employees, which were not given the raise in the budget.
