KARACHi (Dunya News) - Jamaat-e-Islami on Saturday announced to boycott elections in Karachi and two constituencies of Hyderabad to protest against alleged rigging of the elections at different polling stations.
Addressing a news conference in Karachi‚ Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Syed Munawar Hassan said the party has withdrawn its candidates from all constituencies of Karachi and two constituencies of Hyderabad.
He alleged that the voters of his party are being frightened and halted to cast their votes. He accused MQM of forcibly hijacking the elections.
Munawar Hassan said the party would hold peaceful protest demonstrations on Monday against the alleged rigging of the elections in Karachi and Hyderabad.
Jamhori Watan Party, Sunni Itehad Council and Mohajir Qaumi Movement have also boycotted the elections. The parties has alleged that the polls are being rigged and the promise of a "free and fair elections" is going unfulfilled.
Later today, Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) boycotted elections in NA-248, PS-108 and PS-109 constituency.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Spokesperson Arif Alvi demanded that the notice be taken of reports of rigging and mismanagement in various polling stations of Karachi. He said that the army had been called multiple times but had not arrived even after five hours.
Pakistan Peoples Party has asked for re-election in the constituencies where rigging has been reported.
Expressing reservations over Karachi situation, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) said that polling results in Karachi would be unacceptable.
