Summary President Zardari signs (Amended Ordinance‚ 2013 for overseas Pakistanis right to vote.


ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) President Asif Ali Zardari has approved and signed the Electoral Laws (Amendment) Ordinance‚ 2013 to facilitate the overseas Pakistanis to cast their votes.


According to the Ordinance, the Election Commission of Pakistan will establish polling stations in the premises of an Embassy a Mission or a Consulate at least 14 days before the polling date.


The consent of the host country for establishment of the polling stations must be acquired.


The ordinance further says that overseas Pakistanis will register themselves at the respective embassy‚ mission or consulate where he intends to cast his vote not later than ten days before the polling date.


To ensure the conduct of free‚ fair and transparent polling‚ the Election Commission shall appoint independent monitors at a polling stations‚ the ordinance says.


The Presidential Spokesperson said that the Ordinance shall come into force at once but shall take effect on the date or dates to be notified by the Election Commission in the official gazette.
