Updated on

Summary The LHC has sought an explanation from Election Commission for not holding local elections.

LAHORE (Dunya News):-The action has been taken over a petition filed against negligence of Election Commission for not holding local bodies’ elections. The court also has ordered the Election Commission to submit its reply in written in the court on next hearing.

When Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial resumed hearing of the case, the counsel on the part of the petitioner argued that Punjab government was deliberately lingering the matter.

Chief Justice consulted the Punjab government that notification to delay local elections will be over on July 11; “what kind of arrangements you have made in this regard.”

At this, the Punjab government lawyer argued the issue of local bodies’ elections is under prosecution in the Supreme Court.

The Chief Justice while reviewing the current situation of the case has ordered the Election Commission to submit its reply in written in the court on next hearing to be held after four weeks.
