Summary Speakers and intellectuals say the youth should fully participate in the upcoming elections.

 

ISLAMABAD (Online): Renowned political scientists have urged youth to fully participate in the upcoming elections as it is very vital to strengthen democracy and for progress and prosperity of the county.

 

Dialogue with university student on “Importance of Effective Participation of Youth in Election 2013” was held at FAST National University of Islamabad on April 19, 2013 under the auspices of Centre for Human Rights Education-Lahore. A large number of male and female students of different department participate in the dialogue.

 

Naseer Memon (Chief Executive–Strengthening Participatory Organization), Adam Malik (Project Manager-Society for Alternate Media and Research) and Samson Salamat (Director, Centre for Human Rights Education) were the panelists at this occasion.

 

Naseer Memon said, “Country’s better future is linked with democracy; therefore youth should understand the importance of the democracy and support it. If youth want to bring a change in country, they should fully participation in elections. Educational institutes should initiate debates to engage the students and youth in the politics. Just casting vote is not politics; rather, it is more important to hold the public representatives accountable”.

 

Naseer Memon criticized the Zia and other dictatorship regimes because during their tenures the politics was portrayed as something bad which affected the overall political and democratic discourse of the country.

 

Samson Salamat said, “There are various misconceptions about democracy in our society but youth should understand that democracy is the best possible way forward for better Pakistan. Youth should cast their vote after a critical analysis of political parties and candidate despite just relying on the attractive slogans”.

 

Adam Malik (Project Manager-Society for Alternate Media and Research) said that Pakistan is our home and we all have responsibilities to solve the challenges which we are facing. As youth is the future of any country therefore it is essential that youth should fully participate in elections and cast vote freely and fairly.

 

The students including Junaid, Saifullah, Tayyab Ali, and others asked different questions from the panelists related to politics, democracy and regarding the resolve of the crisis faced by the country.
