Army didn’t kill Bugti, no child or woman was killed in Lal Masjid: Musharraf

Summary Says an army colonel trying to protect children was killed by the armed men inside the mosque.

 

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Addressing a press conference here Wednesday former president Pervez Musharraf said he had come to Pakistan to do something for good for Pakistan.


He said he would streamline the affairs of All Pakistan Muslim League and would take part in elections.


Justifying the Lal Masjid operation Musharraf said a state within state had been established there and the all kinds of weapons and explosives were stored there, adding everybody was demanding operation against the militants hiding in the mosque and madrassa at that time.


He categorically rejected the claims that women and children were killed during the operation.

 

“The fact is that an army colonel, who was trying to protect the children from any harm, was shot dead by the militants in the mosque,” he said.

 

When asked about the killing of Akbar Bugti, Musharraf said army did not kill him, adding it might be the result of a blast in the cave where he was hiding by his own men. 


He reminded the media persons that four military officials were also killed by the gunmen of Akbar Bugti.

 

About the Cargil operation, he said Pakistan army had the neck of Indian army in its hands at that time.

 

He said he becomes emotional at the mention of Cargil war.

 

The former president said during his tenure Pakistan’s economic condition was better than now.

 

To question he said he took the right decision after the 9/11 in the interest of the country.

 

“Our sovereignty and atomic assets were at stake after 9/11, and a military alliance between India and United at that time would have been fatal for Pakistan,” he said.
