Summary Attorney General told court that nomination papers issue can delay the upcoming elections.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) –Chief Justice of Pakistan on Thursday remarked that Supreme Court will not allow elections’ delay for a single day.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of electoral reforms case.
During case proceeding, the Chief Justice remarked that Election Commission printed the nomination papers while complying with the court orders. Constitution has authorized the ECP to work on its own.
He said recommendations forwarded by Election Commission could be implemented.
On this, Attorney General Irfan Qadir argued that how ECP can approve nomination papers without president’s consent.
He said government has agreed to most of the recommendations, however, there are reservations over few issues.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that if the President has not giving his views on the nomination papers, it means that he has not rejected the papers.
He asserted that ECP has taken the step in accordance with the constitution.
The case hearing is underway.
