Summary The ECP's deadline to the government for approval of new nomination papers ends today.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The deadlock between the government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) continues over the amendments in nomination papers proposed by the ECP.

The ECP will wait for the president’s decision on its proposed nomination from till Monday afternoon following which it will order printing of the same old forms by the evening.

Meanwhile, the Law Ministry had objected to several proposed changes in nomination papers.

Objecting over a box about the academic qualification of the candidate, the law ministry said that it should only be made mandatory for the technocrats in the Senate.

The ministry also raised objections over the provisions seeking details of candidates, their family s wealth, tax record and three-year record of their foreign visits.

It said that the tax returns record of the last three years should not be sought from the candidates but from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Over dual nationality, the ministry said that after submission of the affidavit, there is no need to seek details of foreign passport.

The Law Ministry further added that if a criminal case against any candidate is pending then he couldn t be declared ineligible for contesting elections.
