Summary United States has once again expressed reservations on Pak-Iran gas pipeline project.
The United States once again expressed reservations on Pak-Iran gas pipeline project and hoped that Pakistan would not go in a direction that would cause US to impose sanctions on it.
Briefing the newsmen in Washington, State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said that Pakistan’s gas pipeline accord with Iran is against UN sanctions.
“I spoke about it quite extensively yesterday. I don’t think I have anything further since yesterday,” she said.
“Just to be absolutely clear again, if this deal is finalised for a proposed Iran-Pakistan pipeline, it would raise serious concerns under our Iran Sanctions Act,” Ms Nuland said.
She added that the US was involved in many ways to help Pakistan address its energy needs.
