ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Ministry of Water and Power has constituted a four member committee to probe the massive power breakdown.

The 4-member committee will submit its report in 7 days on the order issued by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.

Electricity was partially restored in several areas by mid-morning and it will be restored in other areas within few hours, an official said.

Secretary Water and Power Rai Sikandar said production of 5‚800 megawatt electricity has been restored while work is underway to overcome the remaining shortfall.

The blackout began at 11:45 p.m. yesterday with a technical failure at a privately run 1,200 megawatt power plant operated by Hub Power Co. (HUBC), the country’s second-biggest generator, the power ministry official said.

Other power plants, including those at the Tarbela and Mangla dams, tripped as they were unable to meet demand, affecting major cities including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar.
