Summary The SC Chief Justice says Chairman NAB maligned apex court by writing a letter to President Zardari.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News): Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, passed these remarks during hearing of contempt case against chairman National Accountability Bureau Admiral (R) Syed Fasih Bukhari here on Tuesday.

The three-member bench headed by the chief justice conducted hearing of the aforesaid case.

The NAB Chairman’s counsel Navid Rasool Mirza told the court that his client has a professional career and has great respect for the court from the core of heart. He also took part in the lawyers’ movement launched for restoration of independent judiciary.

He told the court that Admiral Bukhari wrote the letter to President in individual capacity.

Chief Justice asked the lawyer that how media got the copy of the letter and how secret document leaked out from the personal computer of Chairman NAB. At this, Mirza replied that the NAB’s media cell committed this negligence.

The CJP said that although NAB chairman had admitted the contents of the letter; however the court issued simple notice to him as he was not served with the show-cause notice and even he is not bound to attend the court in person.

The Chief Justice said that the supreme court supports free, fair, impartial and timely elections in the country and it is not an obstacle in the way of polls.
