Summary Dr Tahirul Qadri withdrew from the demand of dissolution of national and provincial assemblies.
LAHORE (Dunya News):- A new agreement has been signed between the government and Dr Qadri for scrutiny of nomination papers of candidates regarding forthcoming general elections.
The government team comprising law minister Farooq H Naik and information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira and others called on Dr Qadri at his Tehrik Minhajul Quran secretariat at Model Town on Saturday and discussed issues regarding strategy for in time elections.
Later, talking to the media, information minister said that the government had signed an agreement with Dr Qadri that scrutiny of papers would be completed in 30 days but now the period has been decreased by 14 days in order to discourage propaganda.
“The decision to hold general elections within 60 days would remain intact but scrutiny of nomination papers would be completed in 14 days rather than 30 days”, said Naik.
Dr Tahul Qadri also agreed that the decision has been taken in order to foil negative propaganda against the electoral process.
He made it clear that the assemblies would complete their tenure of five years and work till March 16.
Interior minister Farooq H Naik said that law regarding scrutiny of papers would be amended soon.
