Summary SC seeks details in IB secret funds for pulling down Punjab government case.

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court has sought detailed reply from the incumbent Director General Intelligence Bureau till February, 8 in use of IB secret funds for pulling down Punjab government case.

A three-member bench of SC led by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry conducted hearing of the case on Wednesday.

Former Director General Intelligence Bureau) Tariq Lodhi admitted before Supreme Court that amount was withdrawn from IB accounts during his tenure.

The court sought detailed reply from him within two days and directed Registrar SC to seek the decision from Lahore High Court given by it on reference filed by former president Ghulam Ishaq Khan in connection with disqualification of Benazir Bhutto in 1992 and present the same before it.

During the course of hearing former DG IB Masood Sharif Khattak, Tariq Lodhi, Attorney General and Director Legal IB Tabinda Noor appeared before the court.

Tariq Lodhi filed a brief but sealed reply in the court while Masood Sharif filed reply in details. However, the incumbent DG IB filed a questionnaire containing three legal points in the court rather than furnishing reply.

The court said questionnaire will be seen later and he should first of all file reply which has been sought by the court.

Masood Sharif also told the court that he had already moved this reply before the Lahore High Court; so, it would be futile to keep it secret.

“I have already filed all the details with Lahore High Court when former President Ghulam Ishaq Khan had filed a reference seeking disqualification of Benazir government”, he stated.

He also prayed the court for special relief in the aforesaid case.

The court directed him to provide his documents to Registrar SC and matter related to him will be reviewed in chambers.

Attorney General (AG) Irfan Qadir appeared in the court on behalf of incumbent DG IB and told the court he had sent three legal points in the form of questions and court should decide about it first.

The court asked him to make preparations till February 13 and till that time “we may review this matter. Ask the DG to file the detailed reply till February, 8 in respect of the questions asked by the court”, SC observed.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till February, 8.
