ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naek has said that all four chief ministers needed to be consulted for holding elections of national and provincial assemblies on same day.


Interacting with reporters outside the Parliament House on Tuesday, Naek said government was yet to determine the date of general polls, adding that two-third majority was needed to set up new provinces.


“Under the Constitution, Punjab Assembly will be dissolved on April 8, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Mar 8, Sindh Assembly on Apr 6 and Balochistan Assembly will be suspended on April 6.


Chief ministers will dissolve the assemblies in provinces while National Assembly will be dissolved on March 16.


President Zardari, Naik said, will announce the date for the general elections.


To a question, he said that governor rule was clamped in Balochistan under Article 234 of the Constitution. But he clarified that assembly was still intact in the restive province.


Responding to a question, he said that opposition was nothing to do with the agreement signed with Tahir ul Qadri. The written pact is with the government and its allies, he added.


More consultation with Minhajul Quran would be done on Sunday, he said, adding that every decision would be made as per the law.
