Summary The PAC will send a reference to Parliament against Registrar Supreme Court.
ISLAMABAD:-Public Accounts Committee has decided to raise the issue in the parliament as Registrar Supreme Court has refused to appear before the Committee.
The in-camera meeting of PAC was held on Tuesday at Parliament House headed by Chairman Nadeem Afzal who raised the issue about non-appearance of Registrar of SC before the committee.
After the meeting, Chairman while briefing the journalists said that the committee would also recommend National Assembly to discuss the matter at earliest. “We don’t want to create the image of confrontation between the institutions so we would send the matter to the House. We did not step back from our viewpoint as it is the issue of rule of law”, he added.
He said that if Supreme Court refuses to present their accounts before Public Accounts Committee, other departments would also do the same. The audit objections of SC from 2001 to 2011 are lying pending. The Supreme Court uses public funds which come from the taxes of the people so PAC can review the accounts of it.
He told the reporters that committee pondered on three options about the registrar of Supreme Court but it decided unanimously to send the matter to the parliament for discussion. Now it is upto the National Assembly either it would call joint session of the parliament or take some another action.
He said that the PAC before reaching the decision consulted the legal experts including Yasin Azad, Justice Tariq and Justice Sher.
