Summary Sixteen dead bodies have been recovered including that of 12 soldiers.


MUZAFFARABAD: The death toll in the deadly avalanche at the Sharda sector has risen to 18.


At least 18 people went missing, including eight soldiers, after they were hit by an avalanche triggered by heavy snow fall in the Kel sector. The soldiers were on a mission to find three colleagues buried by an earlier avalanche on Friday.


The party of rescuers had found two bodies when another avalanche struck in the mountainous Neelum Valley. Heavy snows triggered the two landslides at a remote outpost in the Kel area of Sharda sector.


ISPR has confirmed that bodies of 5 soldiers including an officer and 4 civilians buried under the snow at Sharda sector on Line of Control were recovered on Saturday. Endeavors are underway for search of the remaining missing persons.


As per police bodies of the persons retrieved so far were identified as Muhammad Anwar, Muhammad Khurshid, Muhammad Afzal, Gul Hussain Munir Ahmad, Capt Imran, Non Commissioned office Dost Muhammad, Havaldar Mehmood Alam, Sepoy Matin Ahmad, Sepoy Muhammad Khan, Sepoy Muhammad Tahir, Sepoy Muhammad Sakhawat Hussain, Sepoy Muhammad Hussain, Sepoy Muhammad Aslam, Sepoy Atta Ullah, Sepoy Farman Hayat and Sepoy Khalid.
