Summary PM Gilani on Monday sent three names to the opposition for the next Chief Election Commissioner.

Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has forwarded three names to Opposition Leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for appointment of permanent Chief Election Commissioner.The list includes the name of Justice(R) Munir A. Sheikh, Justice (R)Amir-ul-Mulk Mangal and Justice (R) Zahid Qurban Alvi.The slot of CEC is lying vacant after the retirement of former Chief Election Commissioner Justice(R) Hamid Ali Mirza.However, senior most Judge of the Supreme Court Justice Mian Shakir Ullah Jan is performing duties as Acting CEC.After the passage of 20th amendment, the Prime Minister is constitutionally bound to take Opposition Leader in the National Assembly on board on the issue, as without his consultation, the Prime Minister cannot appoint the Chief Election Commissioner.Fulfilling the constitutional requirement, the Prime Minster has sent the names of three retired judges of the apex judiciary to the opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for induction of head of ECP.
