Country faces 3,500MW electricity shortfall

Summary Shortfall of electricity has reached 5,500 megawatt in the country.

According to PEPCO spokesman, total power demand has reached to 14,776 megawatts however the production is 11,227 megawatts.IPPs are generating 6000 megawatts and thermal plants are providing 1,791 megawatts of electricity. However, the hydel power generation has restrained to 3,477 megawatts.The spokesman further said that increase in production is due to improvement in gas and oil supply.The people are facing at least 12 to 14 hours loadshedding in urban areas and 16 to 18 hours in rural areas.
